The first of the spring babies has arrived at Taronga Western Plains Zoo and it’s covered in stripes!

Today is a sad day at Taronga Western Plains Zoo with passing of Andrea Giraffe at 24 years of age. Andrea had been in declining health due to her age for some months.

Keepers have welcomed the birth of a critically endangered male Addax on August 8. For the first couple of weeks the little antelope’s mother had hidden him, like they would in the wild, to protect him from predators.

Keepers have hopes that Kiwi the Tasmanian Devil is carrying pouch young. She's part of an insurance breeding program for the species as a contagious cancer is wiping them out.

With the weather getting warmer, both the elephant calves have been going into the pool more often. They’re playing really well together and Pathi Harn tries to clamber onto Luk Chai’s back. It’s just as well that Luk Chai’s trunk functions well as a snorkel.
