Manager of Research and Conservation, Dr Rebecca Spindler is currently out on the Great Barrier Reef with the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) to collect coral spawn to add to the gene bank currently housed at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Bush Dog and Giant Armadillo Updates

Taronga supports a project which aims to establish the first ecological study of Giant Armadillos in the Brazilian Pantanal wetland. The recent field study has found that another little known mammal, the Bush Dog, shares the same habitat. Read the update from Doctor Arnaud Desbiez here.

Beau's spikes
Beau the puggle

Our gorgeous echidna puggle Beau is doing very well under the watchful eyes of nurses at the Taronga Wildlife Hospital. The youngster has now tripled its size and the nurses and now exposing the puggle to dirt so that Beau can dig and burrow. See the latest photos of the puggle here.

New Stars at Reptile World

Taronga’s Indian Star Tortoise breeding group has two new hatchlings. A total of nine Star Tortoises are now housed in the Zoo’s Reptile World, with the four juveniles still too young for display being cared for off exhibit.
