An injured Peregrine Falcon, the world’s fastest animal, has found its wings again thanks to the help of the Zoo’s Wildlife Hospital and Bird Show trainers.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo has commenced its third Rhino breeding program with the importation of a female Greater One-Horned (or Indian) Rhinoceros. Three-year-old Amala was transferred from Los Angeles Zoo in the USA to join Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s resident male Greater One-Horned Rhino, Dora.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo has welcomed the arrival of another spring baby – a Bison calf born in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 10 November 2009.

Taronga’s elephant calf, Luk Chai, has decided to get a head start on swimming for summer.

Over the weekend we gave Luk Chai another new ball to roll about with. This time we chose a yellow fitness ball filled with air because he loves to squash things with his belly.

Taronga’s famous animals today got some special support from the cast of the Broadway musical, Wicked who put down their magic wands, rolled up their sleeves and helped the Zoo’s dedicated keepers.The Zoo’s majestic animals cast a spell over Lucy Durack who plays ‘Glinda’ the Good Witch, Amanda Harrison, the Wicked Witch of the West and ‘Fiyero’, played by Rob Mills, who turned their talents to zoo keeping by assisting Taronga staff with a range of duties.

Taronga Zoo’s world renowned Chimpanzee exhibit will receive a $7.1 million makeover . The refurbishment would include the construction of a new aviary like structure to enable Taronga Zoo keepers to introduce new Chimpanzees to the group more safely.

Four feisty Tasmanian Devil joeys will have a general health check and paternity tests today at Taronga Zoo to determine the sire of the litter.
