These small carnivorous marsupials don’t have a permanent pouch. Just before breeding mothers form a small flap of skin on their belly to raise their young.
In the wild their numbers are decreasing due to urban development, introduced predators and Cane Toads. Cane toads are poisonous at all stages of their life cycle. Native animals including the quoll eat toads mistaking them for native frogs and die from the poison.
