Burma
Species:
Born 1954
Burma is a female Asian Elephant and has been a resident at Taronga Western Plains Zoo since she moved from Taronga in mid-2005.
Burma is certainly the tidiest elephant at the Zoo and is very particular about her surroundings. She is fussy about the foods used for rewards at times – although she always loves sweet potato.
Burma can also be fussy about how clean her pool is before she swims and unlike the other elephants at Taronga Western Plains Zoo she keeps her rice hull bed clean and tidy during the winter time.
Burma can be very moody and takes time to accept new keepers working with her. She is highly intelligent and when she wants to be, can be very cooperative and really enjoys interaction and working with keepers.
