Red Kangaroo Joey gets a helping hand
Friday 16th October 2009

Freddie the Red Kangaroo Joey came into the Zoo's Wildlife Hospital at about 11 months of age.  Because the joey was so young, it needed a keeper to feed and tend to its needs.  Over the past three months a zoo keeper has been hand-raising this youngster giving the joey three feeds a day as well as taking it to the Wildlife Hospital for regular check-ups.

Today, Freddie had his final check up at the Taronga Wildlife Hospital and is now ready to take the next step towards returning to the wild at a reserve located west of Dubbo in New South Wales to  gradually get used to the new surroundingss and learn to survive before returning to the wild.
