Kristy, Senior Education Officer
Project Platypus is enjoying another successful year in 2012 with students from five Dubbo schools participating in prac days at the Zoo, the Cultural Centre, at Sandy Beach along the Macquarie River and at their schools.
They ‘ve been learning all about the behaviour and biology of the Platypus, the threats to them and most importantly the ways all of us can contribute to minimising these. We have had a great deal of help through the course of the project from partners and supporters including Dubbo City Council, Catchment Management Authority, Dubbo City Council, Department of Primary Industries, RiverSmart, Dubbo Field Naturalists and the Dubbo Bushcare Group.
The students used their knowledge to finalise their projects unveiling them at the Community Expo at the Zoo. This year, we also extended the project to Sofala, Wattle Flats and Lithgow. These small schools become very actively involved and their artworks were also displayed at the Expo.
