Returning 31 October 2014 - 1 February 2015

This summer at Taronga Zoo, get up close to life-size and life-like dinosaurs, including old favourites such as the T-Rex. Our new 3D experience will also make it the most exciting way for kids to learn about these amazing creatures. Free with admission.

To understand their story is to understand the need to protect today’s species from the same fate.

It’s recommended that you purchase tickets online, so that you can make the most of your time at Taronga. You’ll be able to experience ‘The Zoo with a View’ from the Sky Safari, and see Taronga from above — a special trip that’s included in your ticket price!

Dino Visit Guide

From 31 October 2014, visit Taronga Zoo and meet our Dinosaurs! Dotted around the eastern side of the Zoo, lurking in gardens, reaching out from wetlands, and appearing inside unexpected exhibits, you’ll come face-to-face with full-size, life-like dinosaurs — each giving you a sense of what life may have been like in prehistoric times.

You’ll witness these magnificent creatures up close, learn about the way they lived, and find out more about the modern-day animals that they represent through our specially designed dinosaur activities.

Dinosaur Trail

Pick up a Dinosaur Trail map at any of the entrances to the Zoo. It will show you where all of the dinosaurs are located, and set you dedicated challenges as you track them all down. It will also provide instructions on how to use our amazing 3D interactive experience!

Dino Keeper Talks

Each day, you’ll have the chance to hear our Dinosaur Keepers talk about our newest arrivals at the Dinosaur Lawns. (map ref 3F).

Our Keeper Talks run at 11am and 2pm every day, and they give you the chance to hear more about dinosaurs, the time when they roamed the earth, and to learn about the importance of protecting today’s remarkable wildlife from extinction.

Dino Lawns

At our Dinosaur Lawns (map ref 3F), you can experience our wild activity hub, with our T-Rex, Stegosaurus Robot and there’s also a Fossil Pit Dig for the kids to learn more about palaeontology. What kind of remains will you find?

You’ll also find a wide range of prehistoric toys, gifts and souvenirs at our Dino Shop (map ref 4E)

Dino Cafe

After exploring the dinosaur trail, you’ll be feeling as ravenous as a Tyrannosaurus Rex! Luckily enough, our very own Dino Cafe is sure to satisfy your hunger. Get your teeth into a Styracosaurus sausage in a roll, a Brachiosaurus Beef Burger, or even a bowl of Jurassic slaw (map ref 4H).

Alternatively, head down to the Taronga Food Market (map ref 12G) and pick up your bonus 3D T-Rex Collector Cup with every Frozen Coke purchase!

Dino School Groups

This summer, experience Dinosaurs in the Wild with your school! This outdoor-based learning experience will help your class understand the story of the prehistoric Dinosaur extinction. Dotted around the eastern side of the zoo, lurking in gardens, reaching out from wetlands, and popping up in unexpected exhibits, you’ll come face-to-face with full-size, life-like dinosaurs — each bringing a sense of what life in prehistoric times may have been like.

With that in mind, each Dinosaur has been ‘matched’ to a modern animal that shares similar characteristics. For example, the Tyrannosaurus Rex bears similarities with the endangered Tasmanian Devil — a fellow strong-jawed carnivore with a passion for scavenging.

This journey is further enhanced through technology with a new, innovative Dinosaur Augmented Reality application. In a fun and engaging way, the app takes students on a journey around the zoo to ‘collect’ the dinosaurs, which then provides further information around the biology and habitat of the creatures.

To enhance your school excursion, Taronga Zoo has devices that are available through the Education Centre, free of charge. For bookings, contact the Taronga Education Centre via email tzedipad@zoo.nsw.gov.au or phone 9978 4552.
