Children's author and wildlife photographer Jan Latta

Workshop Topics

Jan Latta, author and photographer travels to Africa, India, China, Borneo, Uganda and Sri Lanka to photograph and write about endangered animals. She does this to tell the animals’ stories in her True to Life Books. Each animal ‘talks’ to children through words and photographs about how they live in the wild.

Jan will talk about the importance of reading and especially homework. When she’s close to a dangerous wild animal she needs to know everything about the animal to keep herself safe. And she learns so much from watching – sometimes the animals help her write the book!

Join us for a very exciting video conference from Taronga Zoo, where Jan will show exciting videos and photos from her adventures and discuss her ‘creative non-fiction’ narrative style of writing.  Live Zoo animals and information on how to protect threatened species from the Zoo Educator will inspire students to write their own 'True to Life' style narrative on an animal they choose.
