NAIDOC Week is held each year to celebrate the achievements, history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year, we would like you to bring your students to Taronga Western Plains Zoo to celebrate this national event.
The day focuses on the future, on making changes and taking responsibility for the future we make together. Aboriginal people have developed a very deep understanding of Australian Country and how to live sustainably. In order for us to emerge as a sustainable modern society, we can draw upon aspects of Indigenous knowledge to address modern day environmental problems.
Your students can visit the Zoo where they will undertake a series of exciting workshops. The workshops will include Aboriginal dance, art, dreamtime stories, bush tucker and animal encounters at the Education Centre.
