Marty’s inspiration for this piece was representing the evolution of the various tribes and sub-tribes of the Rhinoceros.
Marty's and THE HOURS interests lie in showcasing work developed by people from art-forms that are often learnt outside the institution, these include; tattooists, graffiti writers, street artists, sign writers, Skateboarders, Surfers, Designers, and Typographers.
In 2009 Marty conceptualized a 4 stop national tour named "Go Font Ur Self*", showcasing studies on lettering. The Program boasts 2 years, featuring 84 local & international artists, 17 exhibitions over 2 years across 4 capital cities, over 9,000 people in attendance and 2 books.
In August 2010 Marty created "Lo-Fi Collective", a weekly showcase of local and international artists located in a large attic warehouse space in the centre of Taylor Square, Sydney. Since August 2010 Marty has programmed, installed and promoted over 60 exhibits for the space. Marty also recently started a second gallery called "The Tate" in Glebe, a more polished exhibition space with rent free studio workspaces for resident artists.
Over the last 5 years Marty has worked as a senior level art director for Peer Group Media and Riversdale Group, working on various projects including The Standard, The Projects, Motorola, Bacardi Express, Toohey's Extra Dry, Uncharted & The Lab, and festival brand activations across Parklife, Field Day, Big Day Out and Splendour In The Grass.
Marty is now focusing on curating and developing various indoor and outdoor art projects for THE HOURS and continuing to develop his own artwork studies on lettering and sign painting.
