Lion Cub receives first health check
Taronga Western Plains Zoo is celebrating major breeding success with the birth of three African Lion cubs, one male and two females, on 28 February 2015.

QantasLink and Taronga Western Plains Zoo today unveiled the refreshed ‘Taronga’ decal on one of QantasLink’s newest Q400 aircraft, reaffirming their commitment to regional tourism and the Dubbo community.
Taronga Zoo’s young male elephant, Luk Chai, 5, had some dental work on his tusks today. Taronga’s Senior Veterinarian, Dr Larry Vogelnest, said some elephants including Luk Chai, have brittle tusks that are prone to cracking and infection.
Taronga's male elephant Luk Chai is being seen by an expert elephant dentist tomorrow to check out his teeth and tusks. Luk Chai has especially small brittle tusks which, through normal play he damages and has suffered recurrent infections.
There are plenty of new faces to see at Taronga Zoo these Easter holidays, including the Zoo’s first ever Bilby joeys, a cheeky Squirrel Monkey baby and an Eastern Bongo Calf.
Taronga Zoo has become one of the first organisations in Australasia to be accredited under a rigorous new animal welfare program launched by the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA).
World Water Day 2015
Taronga Western Plains Zoo has joined with the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, to provide a variety of workshops on the Macquarie River for 200 students to celebrate World Water Day.
