Get a Taste for Taronga

Things are heating up in the Taronga kitchens. The northern beaches Sardinian sensation Giovanni Pilu, head chef and owner of award winning two-hatted Pilu at Freshwater, has come to the Taronga table.

Taronga Piazza inspired by Giovanni Pilu – put more simply Taronga Piazza is a collaboration between the well-known chef and our catering partner, Restaurant Associates.

The food is inspired by classic Italian cafés renowned for their home-baked cakes with a great Lavazza coffee for morning tea or a panino and beer to quench the afternoon thirst. Or for those wanting a leisurely lunch, a bowl of Sardinian pasta with sausage ragu and a crisp glass of Italian Pinot Grigio will certainly tantatise the tastebuds.

The mindset of Giovanni is to combine authentic Italian flavours with fresh local produce.

This new addition to Taronga table builds on many new initiatives in recent years. It started in 2010 with the arrival of popular and respected English chef, Sean Connolly who came on board  as the Culinary Ambassador. Then in 2012 the Taronga Centre for weddings, corporate events and parties launched their new-look function spaces along with a fabulous Sean Connolly menu.

Taronga Piazza inspired by Giovanni Pilu opens on Wednesday 24th July. 90 minute free parking is available for patrons. Taronga Piazza is open from 9.30am – 4.30pm (Winter - May to August) and 5pm in Summer. It is not open for dinner but is available for functions.

The Piazza is located at the Top Plaza Café site and can be enjoyed without entering the Zoo grounds, so it's the perfect place to bring family and friends for a coffee and delicious meal.
