When I told Mum that I wanted to write about snails and slugs this month she told me this rhyme she’s known for a long time but that I had never heard before. It goes:
SLUGS AND SNAILS
What are little boys made of, made of?
What are little boys made of?
"Slugs and snails, and puppy-dogs' tails;
And that's what little boys are made of."
What are little girls made of, made of?
What are little girls made of?
"Sugar and spice, and all that's nice;
And that's what little girls are made of."
I reckon that’s strange! I love snails abd slugs, so I wouldn't mind if boys were made out of them...
Anyway… there are heaps of cool snails and slugs in Australia and lots of them live on the land and especially in rainforests! They are really interesting! They can’t use a mobile phone so they leave smelly messages in their slime trail. The next snail eats the slime trail and tastes the message – that’s how they know if there is another snail around or if they would like to mate! Cool hey? They also only have one foot and their mouth is in that foot! Imagine having to eat with your feet! I’d hate it because my shoes get pretty smelly – I can’t imagine if I could taste with my feet! Gross!
