Keepers at Taronga Western Plains Zoo were quite surprised when the checked on the apes on the island exhibit on June 15!
Siamangs are small primates that are usually black or brown, they call loudly to each other to communicate and weigh about 15kgs when they are grown-ups.
Baby Siamangs are tiny, and don’t have much hair – so when a new baby is born, they cling to their mother for warmth and protection. The mum can even swing from tree to tree and keep hold of her baby, who holds on very tight!!
Have a look at some of the photos below a friend of my mum sent us of the new little Siamang. Click on the link here too, to hear the call of a Siamang!
