Surreal, there’s no other word for it. On Easter Sunday, Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, visited Taronga Zoo and opened the new Bilby exhibit named in honour of their son, Prince George.
Taronga Zoo’s Cassowaries can now be seen in their refurbished rainforest exhibit.
The male and female Cassowaries are sharing separate parts of the exhibit as keepers prepare to move them back together for breeding.
It has been another busy few weeks in Taronga’s Herpetofauna department, with the acquisition of some very new animals, enrichment feeds to some very old animals, and the handling and conditioning of a very snappy animal!
A fire broke out in a service building on the perimeter of Taronga Zoo overnight.
Fire Brigade crews attended and extinguished the fire before 3am.
No people or animals were injured in the fire.
Preliminary investigations have found no suspicious circumstances.
