It’s now over 15 months since we released these almost-extinct birds back to their Ironbark Forest habitat at Chiltern, in Victoria, as part of the recovery program and it has flown over 100 kilometres to Holbrook! This is the second bird to be spotted alive and well over a year after the release. The first bird is still being recorded in Chiltern mixing with wild Regents.
At Bird Show we are currently training two new additions for our show, Major Mitchell Cockatoos, ‘Big’ and ‘Bounce’. ‘Big’ and ‘Bounce’, hatched in October of last year and so have a lot of learning and growing up to do.
As part of a 10 year Centenary Master Plan upgrade, Taronga has submitted plans to build an Australian Habitat Exhibit (phase 1) which includes an overnight conservation experience called the Taronga Wildlife Retreat.
