Often I tell people that when I was a young keeper the very last thing I wanted to do was to work with primates. Not because I did not like them but I felt they would be to hard to understand, too complex, too difficult.
With the rain came a new arrival, a Przewalski’s Horse foal born on Wednesday, 01 December. Whilst officially this was the first day of summer, the little filly named ‘Solongo’ meaning ‘rainbow’ in Mongolian, arrived into what has been a wet start to the summer season.

Ripley the owl has been part of the Bird Show crew for just over a year now. It doesn't seem that long ago that she was covered in white fluffy down and taken home every night to be hand-raised by one of her trainers and surrogate-mum, Erin.
The Taronga Foundation raised over $340,000 for tigers last Friday at the annual Zoofari fundraiser in a spectacular Marquee at Taronga Zoo overlooking the Harbour.

Public Notices

A fire broke out in a service building on the perimeter of Taronga Zoo overnight. Fire Brigade crews attended and extinguished the fire before 3am. No people or animals were injured in the fire. Preliminary investigations have found no suspicious circumstances.
Taronga Zoo has very different policies on animal care than the Copenhagen Zoo.
