Happy the Hippo has a big problem. His tusks are growing in the wrong direction and causing him discomfort as they get too long. To fix this problem we used to anesthetise Happy and cut his tusks down, but to ensure this problem doesn’t occur again Happy is learning a new skill!
Today was the first warm afternoon in weeks and how exciting it was to be previewing Taronga’s newest precinct development – Tahr Mountain link. This is the magnificent new boardwalk that meanders from the new chimp exhibit all the way down to the African walkway, with glorious views of Sydney Harbour along the way. It will make exploring the Zoo a much more seamless journey for all our visitors, with the added pleasure of a really stunning scenic route.
As part of a 10 year Centenary Master Plan upgrade, Taronga has submitted plans to build an Australian Habitat Exhibit (phase 1) which includes an overnight conservation experience called the Taronga Wildlife Retreat.
