Lentil is a funny name but it seems to suit the Tasmanian Devil mother out at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, who recently had two joeys in her pouch! The keepers weren’t sure for a while if she even had babies because she was doing such a good job of looking after them and protecting them that she wouldn’t let anyone see them! But now they are a bit older and the keepers saw them riding on Lentil’s back for little trips! She is still very careful about letting her keepers too close and so really she is an excellent mum! The joeys, which the keepers have only caught once to check if they were healthy and to see if they were boys or girls, (they are both little males!) still don’t have names but I’m sure the keepers will think of something fun and memorable, like Lentil!
