Megan started working on the Australian Mammal division at Taronga Zoo in 2002 and made the move to the Carnivore Unit in 2006.

After studying at University, Megan began to volunteer at The Australian Reptile Park and then the Taronga Conservation Society Australia. Starting as a casual keeper, she took every opportunity to get her permanent keeper’s position and progress at the zoo.

One of the highlights for Megan is working with a large variety of animals on the Carnivore section including Sumatran Tigers, Meerkats and Red Pandas. Every day she is exposed to unusual, amusing and amazing displays of animal behaviours.

Another highlight for Megan is participating in training programs implemented by the carnivore team to aid daily husbandry routines. Megan also enjoys sharing these experiences with her passionate and dedicated colleagues.

Megan’s wildest moment was when she was the first keeper to discover the birth of a baby platypus! The platypus was born at Taronga as part of a breeding program for the species, which is notoriously difficult to breed. The Zoo has so far had three successful breeding seasons.
