2009 Ivy Dinner
The Taronga Foundation 2009 Ivy Dinner raised an overall total of $256,000, making it an extremely successful evening and a wonderful result in our efforts to help save Tasmanian Devils. With Tasmanian Devils facing possible extinction in their homeland in as little as 10-15 years, Taronga Conservation Society Australia is part of a national breeding program aimed at creating a genetically viable mainland population of 1,500 healthy Devils. In the event that Devils becomes extinct in the wild, we can reintroduce healthy Devils to Tasmania if and when it is safe to do so.
Guests were entertained by MC 'Effie' throughout the night and were also given the opportunity to have their photo taken on the Ivy chair with the plush Devils made famous by the event invitation. The auction was a highlight in what was a very successful and enjoyable evening. Auctioneer and Sotheby’s Chair Justin Miller ensured that the bidding was both lively and generous. A special auction item was to win a day as Zoo Director and Guy Cooper, Director and Chief Executive of TSCA, saw his job auctioned off with the lucky bidder winning a the unique Day and VIP Zoo Tour. Zoo supporter and international actor Simon Baker also appeared via video to encourage guests to bid on his offer of a walk-on role on his smash hit show "The Mentalist".
Thank you to all our guests and event supporters of our 2009 Ivy Dinner. This has brought us another step closer to ensuring a future for Tasmanian Devils, and we are grateful for their contribution.
