Guest Services Volunteers work throughout the Zoo providing information and interpretation about the Zoo and its animals to visitors.
Guest Services
Working in the Information Centre advising visitors and handing out maps; participating in interpretation activities; spot guiding (providing information and navigation to visitors on the grounds); helping out at special events; conducting visitor surveys; and assisting with crowd control.
Guest Services Guide (must already be a Guest Services Volunteer)
These volunteers are trained to additionally provide guided tours, especially of our Australian animal & Big Cat section, and assist with VIP tours.
Is this right for me?
You need to enjoy working with people, be prepared to be part of a team, have a keen interest in animals and a willingness to learn. A decent level of fitness is required as you will be walking around the grounds on a regular basis.
Minimum commitment: 12 months, once per fortnight (negotiable).
Financial contribution: $25 joining fee plus Zoo Friends membership
NB: Volunteer positions are not guaranteed, if you are not currently a Zoo Friends member you will not be required to join unitl after you have sucessfully gained a position.
Training
All Guest Services volunteers are required to complete a one day induction and a six day orientation training course, covering customer service, basic animal knowledge and Taronga's programs
- Additional Tour Guide training is required to progress to Guest Services Guide
