For The Wild

At Taronga, we believe that wildlife and people can share this planet. We’re working tirelessly to achieve a shared future, helping threatened species to breed, protecting their genetic diversity and even re-introducing them to the wild. Visit page to find out what Taronga stands for.

Science and Research Volunteers

Animal enrichment, animal watch and water testing volunteers are involved in the creation of enrichment devices for our animals; monitoring Zoo animal behaviour; and scientific research such as water testing. Animal watch, enrichment and water testing is suitable for those who prefer less face-to-face interaction with the public.

Education Volunteers

Education Volunteering is a new program under development, set to start in late 2013, they will provide support for school groups and the Zoo’s education team. Education is suitable for those who enjoy working with students in a more formal program.

Award Winners

Taronga and Taronga western Plains Zoos are enormously proud of the volunteers, who play a vital and much appreciated role in the lives of animals and visitors. More
