9am - Arrive at Taronga Western Plains Zoo and purchase your tickets (alternatively purchase your tickets online ahead of time).

Animal Encounter

Our friendly staff at the ticketing counter can also help you book special animal encounters that will bring you up close and personal with some of the Zoo’s rare and endangered animals. You can feed a Giraffe, Tiger or Lion or go behind the scenes on a Wild Africa Encounter

There are many ways to get around the Zoo, you can hire a bike or electric cart, drive your own car or head around the 6km circuit on foot. Standard and speciality bikes and six seater electric carts are all available for hire.

Once you’re ready, head out on  zoofari and be sure to catch some of the keeper talks and feeds that take place every day. These are a great way to learn more about the Zoo’s animals and see them at feed time!

Real highlights in the morning are the Black Rhino, Hippo and Sumatran Tiger Keeper Talks.

Bakhita's Cafe

For lunch enjoy a picnic in one of the Zoo’s picnic grounds around the circuit or head round to the Savannah Visitor Plaza for a delicious meal at Bakhita’s Cafe, where you can watch the Ring-tailed Lemurs and Spider Monkeys play. There are also plenty of takeaway options to have you fuelled up ready for an afternoon in the Zoo.

In the afternoon, the wallabies in the Aussie walkthrough are often very active. The walkthrough is a great place to get up close to native wildlife, and if you’re lucky give a wallaby a scratch! Look closely in the tree tops too as there are koalas about.

As you come towards the end of the circuit stop at the Galapagos Tortoise exhibit and see NJ the Galapagos Tortoise hatchling. Now compare him to the adults in the exhibit...there is a lot of growing for him to do!

Safari Park playground

At the end of the day let the kids burn off any energy they have left in the Safari Park children’s playground - there are plenty of climbing structures, swings, animal sculptures and even a flying fox to keep them entertained.

Alternatively catch the Ring-tailed Lemur keeper talk on the terrace in front of the Savannah Visitor Plaza at 3:30pm and learn about this unique species.

Before you leave pick up any last minute snacks or perhaps a souvenir from the Zoo Shop to remember your zoofari at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Safe travels and see you next time.
