Visitors can explore Taronga Western Plains Zoo by car, bike, electric cart or on foot. Bikes and electric carts are available for hire, but visitors are welcome to use their own cars or bikes to get around the Zoo.
Getting around by Car
The Zoo features a 6km one-way circuit, with the animal exhibits and picnic grounds situated along the route. Most exhibits can be seen from the road, but a few require you to walk a short distance. The Zoo circuit is a sealed road and road rules apply at all times.
If you are towing a caravan or trailer there is a designated parking area just as you come through the main gates. Please unhook and park your trailer or caravan in this area as they are unable to be taken onto the Zoo’s circuit.
Along the circuilt there is parking so that guests can park their cars and continue to explore the exhibits on foot.
Getting around by Bike
Exploring the Zoo by bike is one of the ultimate ways to see the animals as you can easily take some of the trails off the main circuit. Along the circuit are bike racks to that guests can take a break during their ride and explore.
Bikes are available for hire from the Zoo's hire centre, but visitors are welcome to bring their own. While the Zoo also provides helmets, it is recommended that visitors bring their own where possible.
The Zoo does not take bookings for bike hire, as some specialty bikes are in high demand during weekends and school holidays visitors should enquire at the hire centre upon arrival to arrange the best option.
The Zoo circuit is a sealed road and road rules apply at all times. The first half of the Zoo circuit has a slight incline, but otherwise it is reasonably flat. During the warmer months be sure to bring sunscreen, a hat and drink plenty of water.

Getting around by Cart
A great way to explore the Zoo is by hiring an electric cart. The electric carts seat up to six people. Drivers must be over the age of 21 and require a full drivers licence.
They carts allow for a flexible journey around the Zoo making it easy to hop on and hop off at different exhibits with parking available throughout the circuit.
The Zoo does not take bookings for electric carts. Carts are in high demand during weekends and school holidays, so we recommend that visitors enquire about their availability at the hire centre upon arrival at the Zoo.
