The Zoo is always a fun day out for kids, but it can be an exhausting day out for parents. Plan ahead and follow our tips below to ensure everyone has a great day.
Avoid the queues, buy tickets online
Avoid waiting in line and get express entry by buying tickets online.
Plan the perfect day
Download and print your own copy of the Zoo Map. Work out which animals your children would like to see and plan a route. Don’t forget to check the Daily Timetable , and make sure you take advantage of our child friendly areas, such as KidZoo at Backyard to Bush and the Streets Beach at Great Southern Oceans.
Plan getting to the Zoo
Public transport offers the easiest and quickest way to get to the Zoo.
Make use of stroller hire
Strollers may be hired for $15 a day from the Zoo Shop in the top Plaza.
Bring a picnic blanket
The Concert Lawns provide a great place to picnic while taking in the panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour.
Taronga Zoo has a variety of food and beverage outlets if you would like to buy food on site. For more information visit the Food and Beverages page.
Don’t forget hats and sunscreen
Taronga has a lovely, sunny aspect, so being sun smart at the Zoo is important. Hats and sunscreen can be purchased from the Zoo shops if you forget your own. Don’t forget to re-apply as necessary!
Stop and rest frequently
The Zoo has plenty of seating and rest areas where you can stop and rest. These breaks provide a great time to look at the map, find out about the next keeper talk or play a game with your children.
Backyard to Bush
From the 1st May 2012 the playground and water area of Backyard to Bush will be closed for some exiciting renovations, however kids can still explore the farmyard, the Backyard to Bush house and bush area. Pat a Pet, Backyard Buddies, Farm Yard Feed and Spider Talk are still on every day.
