Zoos’ Mercy Mission for Devils

Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos have commenced a vital breeding program to try to protect Tasmanian Devils which are facing a population collapse in the wild due to a deadly disease. Working with a group of zoos in Australia, the 2008 breeding program has produced 34 joeys so far.

 

Giraffes are a hoofed animal which are called ungulates.

Pygmy Hippo Fascinates Keepers

Taronga Zoo is celebrating its first Pygmy Hippopotamus calf birth in 23 years. Pygmy Hippos are threatened in the wild, and young ‘Monifa' weighed just 3.8 kilograms when she was born.

Hand-raising Cheetah cubs

Keepers at Taronga Western Plains Zoo have been working around-the-clock to hand-raise a pair of male Cheetah cubs born in early August into the Zoo's breeding program for this critically endangered species.

Field Conservation Grants

Each year the Taronga Conservation Society Australia raises funds to support field conservation projects targeted at saving Australian and global threatened species.
