Twilight at Taronga (1996 - 2014)
This special and unique concert series began in 1996 and has been running every year across weekends in February and March for the past 18 years. In addition to raising funds for the conservation and welfare of animals, it captures one of the most epic sun set views in Sydney.
The series is all about having fun with friends in the wild surrounds of the Zoo on a summer night, enjoying a picnic, watching the sun set behind the stage and being entertained by the best performers in the Country. Of course, part of the special appeal is the interaction between the animals and the audience – we often hear a cacophony of animals singing along to the music; seals barking, lions roaring, kookaburras laughing, lyrebirds mimicking!
Over the past 18 years there have been nearly 350 concerts and more than 500,000 people have come through the gates for the shows.
Tickets are all unreserved, picnic style, to allow concert goers to bring their own picnic blanket or chairs. The concert lawn has a capacity of 2,000.
Pack your own picnic or purchase food and beverages at the concert. Twilight at Taronga is a fully licensed event so save the BYO alcohol for the beach and enjoy the bar service and light catering available. Or have a gourmet dinner and paired wine hamper waiting for you by purchasing in advance a Taronga Piazza inspired by Giovanni Pilu hamper for two, Food & Beverage Menu .
So grab your friends and picnics and get ready to go wild under the stars at Taronga Zoo!
