Creativity has been running wild!
A big thank you to all of the artists who have submitted their designs for the Taronga Wild! Rhinos community art project. We have been inundated with designs from not only Australian artists, but artists from all over the world who are keen to be a part of this exciting and important initiative. It is fantastic to see how far and wide the word has spread about Wild Rhinos!
We have been blown away with the high standard of the submissions and the amazing creativity and ideas that have been received – from super-hero rhinos to rhinos that light up and rhinos in bathing suits, the ideas are endless! We can’t wait to see all of them charging out on to the sculpture trail in February next year – the Wild! Rhinos trail will take over the streets of Sydney and greater NSW From 2nd Feb to 28th April next year and will create a unique public art exhibition not to be missed!
So, what next? The Wild! Rhinos artists committee will meet in September to shortlist the designs submitted. All artists who submitted designs will be notified in late September about whether or not their submission has been selected to be part of the official trail. The selected artists will then be commissioned to create their rhinos between November and mid January 2014.
At the end of the event the life-sized rhino sculptures will go under the hammer at a charity auction in May 2014 to raise critical funding for Taronga’s rhino conservation programs.
