This program can be delivered to meet outcomes explicit to subject areas or as part of an Integrated Unit of work across Design and Technology, Science and English.  The central theme to the project is “How do we design exhibits at Taronga which support the Animal Welfare Charter and the Zoo’s vision to “Secure a Shared Future for Wildlife and People”.  Through delivering integrated curriculum we strive to enrich student learning through providing rich, authentic and contextual learning experiences.

Children’s Book Council of Australia celebrates its 70th Anniversary this year with the Book Week theme Books Light Up Our World. Book Week is celebrated each year to acknowledge the wonderful role that books and stories play in our lives. It showcases new and exciting Australian books and authors and highlights how important reading is. To celebrate 2015 Book Week, Taronga Western Plains Zoo is joining with the Macquarie Regional Library to deliver programs this year!

Threatened Species Day at Taronga Western Plains

Description

Threatened Species Day is a national day held each year in September to commemorate the death of the last remaining Tasmanian tiger (also known as the thylacine) at Hobart Zoo in 1936. It is a time to reflect on what happened in the past and how we can protect our threatened species in the future. At Taronga Western Plains Zoo, it is a day for us to celebrate our conservation success stories and partnerships and ongoing threatened species recovery work.

World Environment Day

World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. World Environment Day activities take place all year round and climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere.

 

World Water Day

World Water Day

International World Water Day is held annually on the 22nd of March and provides an opportunity for us to celebrate the role that freshwater plays in our lives. This year focuses on “Sustainable Development”.

 Taronga Western Plains Zoo has joined with Department of Primary Industries to celebrate International World Water Day with a variety of workshops and activities. We will focus on the recreational use of our local wetland environments and the importance of wetland ecosystems to biodiversity.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo is celebrating major breeding success with the birth of three African Lion cubs, one male and two females, on 28 February 2015.
