Animal welfare is paramount at Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos, and the condition of many animals at the Surabaya Zoo shown on the ‘Foreign Correspondent’ program tonight are disturbing and deplorable. Our Zoos are members of the Australasian regional association of zoos (Zoo and Aquarium Association, ZAA). The Association has indicated its willingness, if asked, to join with any proposed task force from the Indonesian Government or Indonesian regional zoo association to assist the animals and staff of Surabaya Zoo.
