Name: Tukta  - 'Doll'
Born: 2010
Location: Taronga Zoo, Sydney

Tukta is the first female Asian elephant calf to be born at Taronga Zoo. She was born at 1.12am after a gestation period of 658 days to Pak Boon on the 2nd November 2010, exactly four years to day since the elephants arrived in Sydney to participate in the regional breeding and conservation program.

At birth she weighed 120kg and was heavier than both the male calves previously born at the Zoo. Tukta was conceived through a natural mating between Pak Boon and Gung and is a half sister to our oldest calf, Luk Chai.

Tukta has been incredibly strong and stable on her feet since the first moments after her birth. She is a strong willed, outgoing and confident calf who is adapting very quickly to life in the herd.

Over the coming years Tukta will gain experience from future births and learn everything she needs to know from her mother Pak Boon and the other older females. One day it will be her turn to participate in the breeding program to ensure a future for the growing elephant population in Australia.
