2018 QBE Free-Flight Bird Show Schools Banner Competition

Give your students the opportunity to see their creativity come to life with the QBE Schools Banner Competition!

Thanks to our partnership with QBE, Taronga is once again running our schools banner competition in 2018, with the theme, "For the Love of Birds".

Students will have the chance to design their own banners for the 2018 theme, and the winning designs will be turned into real banners that will be used to decorate Taronga Zoo Sydney during the month of August.

Plus, the winning school will also receive FREE entry for their whole class to visit Tarnoga Zoo Sydney to see their banners in real life, experience the world class QBE Free Flight Bird Show and a special Behind the Scenes experience.

Entry is open to all NSW school students from ES1, Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4.

About the 2018 theme - For the Love of Birds

Birds are all around us. In Australia we are spoilt with a rich and equally fascinating variety of feathered friends taking to the skies. No matter, where you are from, or where you live, every day there’s an opportunity to connect and see remarkable birds when we take the time to stop and pay attention.

At Taronga our cause is For the Wild. By caring for the wild we are for ourselves and each other. The “wild” isn’t always a destination far away from where YOU are – the “wild” can be right in your own backyard!  What awesome Aves do you see in your “wild”? Think about their colours, their feathers, their patterns, their beaks, their eyes and their wings as they take flight. Use the birds in your “wild” as your inspiration for your designs.

We encourage all students to submit colourful and creative entries. And please make sure you describe your piece of “for the love of birds” art in 50 words or less on the entry form.

About the QBE Free-Flight Bird Show

Taronga’s QBE Free Flight Bird Show began 20 years ago as an initiative by a passionate team of Taronga Bird Keepers. Taronga and these keepers embarked on a mission to share their love of birds and wildlife with our Zoo Friends, guests and the community. The key is the limit in this truly unique presentation, where both exotic birds free fly against the stunning and iconic backdrop of Sydney Harbour.
