Taronga. For the Wild.
A new plan - A new horizon
There is now an exciting new opportunity to build a legacy for wildlife conservation for the next 100 years. Commencing in 2015/16, Taronga’s 10 year centenary capital program aims to build and renew our unique facilities across both our zoos, to create a new platform for tourism growth and enhance our impact on wildlife conservation. A range of projects at Taronga’s two sites and facilities will enhance the state’s most popular public attractions; continue to inspire communities to make a positive difference for the habitats and wildlife that depend on them; and renew and upgrade critical assets that support growth.
Taronga wishes to promote and support innovation within our community by ensuring that both our zoos and their facilities are used as a platform to educate and inspire our community for the wild. Taronga will endeavour to achieve this by showcasing and demonstrating examples of excellence and innovation in science, technology, design and construction that help support behaviour change as part of its Centenary Capital Program. There is no intention at this stage, to carry out a formal shortlisting process after submission of ROI’s. Taronga intends to use the information submitted through this ROI process to inform our current and future capital works project consultants as to the innovative products / services that are currently in the market, such that further investigations can be carried out where appropriate.
Over 1.5 million people visit Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos each year. Over 160,000 students participate in Taronga education programs including more than 100,000 students whose experience includes a visit to our zoos’ living classrooms. Since 2008, Taronga has run certified Vocational Education and Training programs through the Taronga Training Institute (TTI), a Registered Training Organisation, and currently supervises 28 post-graduate students from 10 universities (Honours; Masters; PhD).
