Marion has been a treasured volunteer in the zoo friends area for many many years,   Marion looks after tasks many would call mundane, stuffing thousands of renewal envelopes every month, helping in the foundation offices, stripping, that’s taking apart boxes and sorting mail in case you get the wrong idea.

 

Mation comes in rain hail or shine, whenever called upon and is always happy to help with a smile, whatever task is needed.

The team simply couldn’t do without her.

Greg Owen

 

Greg’s helpful and selfless nature, make him an invaluable volunteer with Backyard to Bush. His integrity and commitment to the role, along with his friendly and approachable nature, make him a great volunteer both working with other staff and helping our guests.

 

Not only does Greg volunteer with Backyard to Bush, but has given his time other programs and events including the 2015 Concert series and Dream Night, 2014.

 

Backyard to Bush rely heavily on Greg’s initiative and skills, including his observation ability, a great quality in the role of volunteer keeper.

 

Greg’s passion for animals and people make him a wonderful representative of the zoo and the organisation’s values.

Jo Nevin

 

 Jo is volunteer coordinator on a Wednesday and is truly a leader, not only does she share tasks and roles fairly, but she creates a positive and supportive atmosphere.  She mentors new volunteers and supports their development and if a member of her team is ill they always get a phone call and a card.

 

She attends every monthly coordinators meetings is a photographer for zoo friends, volunteer programs and PR, she is always happy to share her extensive knowledge and above all recognises that giving the guest a great day is the number one priority, I have never seen her and not gotten a massive smile, on top of it all she even bakes for her team every single week.

Frank Wyld

 

Frank has been a dedicated and reliable volunteer for over 30 years and in that time has contributed a huge amount to Taronga.

 

He has not only constantly gotten involved in day to day Guest Experience volunteer activities, but regularly brings in fresh browse for keepers, mentors new volunteers, has done face painting and helped with childrens activities in school holidays.  He is even responsible for the painted walls in the nocturnal house.

He is always willing to engage in a Why is it so? Converstation with his team and through it all has not lost his sense of humour.

John Pringle

 

 

John is a long term staff member and relatively new volunteer. 

He was nominated by a volunteer who started at Taronga just 6 weeks ago.  From the day she started John has been nothing but welcoming, a continual fountain of knowledge he is always respectful and understanding as a new volunteer learns a little more each week. He makes everything quick and easy to understand.

 

His taking of new volunteers under his wing and providing a supportive environment to grow epitomises Dignity and respect

Judy is a joy to have on the team, she is committed to doing her best in all aspects of her volunteering.

 

Judy is a coordinator and manages her team with kindness and consideration. She is transparent, genuine and honest in her dealings with her team, but also when difficult issues come up with guests on a day to day basis.

Pauline Gibbs

 

Pauline was nominated 12 times by her team for this award. Giving you some idea of how much they value her dignified and respectful approach.

 

A volunteer of 32 years experience, Pauline is known for running the Monday group like a finely oiled machine, but also helping her team develop into an incredibly dedicated group of tour guides.  She keeps her cool under pressure, is decisive but still warm and kind.  She is also well known to staff as she is always making suggestions of how systems and processes should be improved.

Melissa has been instrumental in launching the brand new community fundraising area for Taronga,

There are 2 particular key achievements that if Mel had not worked on would not happened

Firstly, Taronga securing Gold places for City to Surf – enabling us to raise around $20,000

Secondly the Trek for the Wildproject – Sumatra trip for which have secured 12 participants and expect to raise around $40,000

Mel’s enthusiasm and drive have helped kick start these projects and what will surely  be a growth area in the future.

The foundation are  so grateful of the effort and energy Melissa brings to the team.

Jessica Dick

 

Jessica’s B2B team had a very hard time selecting which category to nominate her in as she demonstrates so many of our organisations values.

She has a fantastic work ethic and quiet determination to finish her work to a high standard. When she completes a task she will immediately look around her for more work that needs to be done

From being asked to organise enrichment for some of our animals, she now has taken the initiative to think of new enrichment ideas each week and encourages our TTI and work experience students to help her in creating new and exciting items.

Her volunteering is truly above and beyond and created higher welfare for our animals and huge support to our keepers.

Andrea Turner

 

 

Andrea has contributed a great deal of time, energy and assistance to the Zoomobile program. She comes in every Tuesday to assist with administration  is completely dependable and is always willing to learn new things.

Andrea takes her role whole heartedly,  follows up on unpaid bookings and payments, ensuring the Zoomobile reaches its budget targets and is financially sustainable.  She is precise and clear with clients and very  professional

Juliana Goncalves

 

 

Juliana is a volunteer with the YATZ program and a keeper volunteer, she was nominated for an award in both roles.

 

Her win here is for her work with YATZ. Juliana is a very big advocate of the YATZ program,. She has built relationships with many members and has delivered fantastic workshops to them.  Including  a workshop on South American animals. Which the YATZ loved especially due to her huge energy and enthusiasm

 

Juliana is always willing to help other staff and do tasks additional to YATZ. For example, recently helping Anne Jackson (another volunteer), counting up a few thousand mobile phones, packing them into boxes and sending them off to be recycled for the ‘

Overall, the time and passion that Juliana has contributed to YATZ has helped in running the program and the team would be lost without her!
