Taronga Zoo is giving everyone a birthday gift this year, offering a $1 entry ticket to visitors on their birthday.

“We’re inviting everyone to spend their special day with us and the remarkable animals at Taronga for just $1. It’s our way of saying thank you to the amazing public that continues to support our wildlife conservation work,” said Taronga’s CEO, Cameron Kerr.

From this week people can register on Taronga’s website to receive a $1 voucher to use on their birthday.

“You'll also get a special birthday badge to wear and keep as a memento. This means all of us in the Zoo will know it’s your birthday, so look out for some surprises on the day,” said Cameron.

Taronga offered the $1 entry ticket for the first time last year to celebrate its Centenary, with more than 50,000 people registering for a birthday voucher.

“We had so many people choose to celebrate their birthday with us last year that we decided to extend the offer for another year,” said Cameron.

Every $1 donation will go towards Taronga’s wildlife conservation work to protect 10 critical species from Australia and Sumatra, from the majestic Asian Elephant to the tiny Corroboree Frog to the little-known Pangolin.

“Taronga is not for profit and every Zoo ticket, even your $1 entry, helps us to ensure a brighter future for wildlife,” said Cameron.
