Securing a shared future for wildlife and people

The three Meerkat pups born in February this year have recently started to emerge from their den. The pups are very bold, venturing out much earlier than other litters.

They may be bold but they can’t escape the watchful eyes of mother, Umi, and father, Brock. This is Umi’s third litter since she arrived to the Zoo back in 2010. The whole troop looks out for the new pups, acting as role models to help the young ones develop and care for themselves.

There are now 12 Meerkats on display so come down and check out their antics.

The new litter might be moving homes later this year because his year Taronga Western Plains Zoo will be developing a new Meerat exhibit. The project is being funded through the Taronga Foundation. You can donate to the Foundation here.
