School holidays are almost over which means our Zoo Adventures vacation care program is coming to an end as well. Children who participated in the Zoo Adventures program had the chance to explore the Zoo and come face to face with exotic and endangered animals including the Hippopotamus, Sumatran Tiger and Przewalski’s Horse. The children also spent time at the Zoo’s Education Centre playing fun and educational games as well as watching informative videos in the classroom.
The children got to meet a number of furry and scaly residents of the Education Centre including a Shingleback Lizard, Blue-tongued Lizard and Norman the Koala. Wet ‘n’ Wild was a particularly popular theme during the warmer months and involved children learning about the role water plays in the life of many animals. One of the activities on this day included collecting and identifying macro- invertebrates from the Education Centre creek, as the presence of certain types may give an indication as to the overall health of the ecosystem.
Zoo Adventures is an exciting educational holiday program, run by qualified staff at Taronga Western Plains Zoo and is aimed at primary school children aged 5-12 years. Zoo Adventures will be returning for the autumn school holidays and will run from Tuesday 7 April – Thursday 19 April 2015. For more information, or to make a booking, please contact the Education Centre on 6881 1433.
