National Threatened Species Day is held each year on 7 September to honour the death of the last remaining Tasmanian Tiger at Hobart Zoo in 1936. On this day each year, we in the animal care industry reflect on what happened in the past and how we can safeguard our endangered species in the future. It's a day to celebrate our success stories and continued commitment to threatened species recovery work. Taronga joins colleagues from other NSW zoos and parks today in Martin Place to showcase our collective efforts. Come by and visit! On NTSD we acknowledge the Cammeraygal people and pay respects to their traditions and philosophies for sustainability. Taronga staff member, Leon, acknowledges Country and opens our Sydney event in Martin Place.
