The primate keepers will tell you, there’s something about Mary the Mueller’s Gibbon. She is undisputedly the Queen of Taronga Zoo, and at the ripe old age of 52, she has certainly earned the title.

On 29 June 30 Little Penguins took flight for Germany’s Wuppertal Zoo from Taronga’s Great Southern Oceans exhibit. Although the actual flying was done on a commercial aircraft, the move established the first coordinated global breeding program for Little Penguins outside Australia and was possible due to the outstanding success of the Zoo’s breeding programs for the tiny aquatic birds.
Our four Oriental Small-clawed otters not only like to be kept busy, but they like to have fun too! Our family of otters consists of Dad “Arnie”, named after Arnold Schwarzenegger because he looked big, strong and muscular. The other three otters are his off-spring. The eldest is female Bising with younger brothers Soa and Houdini.
The 3rd project day was an amazing day, we added the final touches to our project (we think it looks awesome)

Update on three year old White Rhino Macheo
As part of a 10 year Centenary Master Plan upgrade, Taronga has submitted plans to build an Australian Habitat Exhibit (phase 1) which includes an overnight conservation experience called the Taronga Wildlife Retreat.
Taronga Zoo would not dissect animals for public display. Taronga’s first concern is always for the welfare and dignity of the remarkable animals in our care.
Taronga Zoo’s young male elephant, Luk Chai, 5, had some dental work on his tusks today. Taronga’s Senior Veterinarian, Dr Larry Vogelnest, said some elephants including Luk Chai, have brittle tusks that are prone to cracking and infection.
