I received an email today from the Earth Hour team asking me what inspires me to protect the planet, and it got me thinking… I think this year Earth Hour theme “uniting people to protect the planet” has really hit the mark
Konira our Andean Condor chick has gradually been shedding her fluffy down. She hatched out looking like a fluff ball, but now she is a mix of feathers and down. Konira is three months old and about half way to becoming a fully-feathered bird.
There was a different bird on the tarmac of the Dubbo airport over the weekend, when a QantasLink plane featuring images of Rhinos and Giraffes flew in on Saturday morning to celebrate the Zoo’s 35th birthday.
Taronga Zoo’s young male elephant, Luk Chai, 5, had some dental work on his tusks today. Taronga’s Senior Veterinarian, Dr Larry Vogelnest, said some elephants including Luk Chai, have brittle tusks that are prone to cracking and infection.
Taronga's male elephant Luk Chai is being seen by an expert elephant dentist tomorrow to check out his teeth and tusks. Luk Chai has especially small brittle tusks which, through normal play he damages and has suffered recurrent infections.
