Meerkats love peanuts and mealworms. Even with strong winds whistling across their sandy exhibit, the little desert-dwellers, rushed out on Tuesday morning to find peanuts – two each – hidden throughout the exhibit.

Taronga Penguins found Breeding Colony in Germany

On 29 June 30 Little Penguins took flight for Germany’s Wuppertal Zoo from Taronga’s Great Southern Oceans exhibit. Although the actual flying was done on a commercial aircraft, the move established the first coordinated global breeding program for Little Penguins outside Australia and was possible due to the outstanding success of the Zoo’s breeding programs for the tiny aquatic birds.

Our four Oriental Small-clawed otters not only like to be kept busy, but they like to have fun too! Our family of otters consists of Dad “Arnie”, named after Arnold Schwarzenegger because he looked big, strong and muscular. The other three otters are his off-spring. The eldest is female Bising with younger brothers Soa and Houdini.

Regents Flown the Coop

It’s now over 15 months since we released these almost-extinct birds back to their Ironbark Forest habitat at Chiltern, in Victoria, as part of the recovery program and it has flown over 100 kilometres to Holbrook! This is the second bird to be spotted alive and well over a year after the release. The first bird is still being recorded in Chiltern mixing with wild Regents.

Galapagos Tortoise hatchling gets new furniture

NJ, the Galapagos Tortoise hatchling is growing well, with keepers now introducing some new 'furniture' into the enclosure.
