Hampers

Sit back and enjoy the fireworks with one of our delicious gourmet hamper curated by Epicure.

Download the Hampers Menu

Taronga is committed to achieving sustainable outcomes & reducing environmental impacts in key areas such as waste management. As of 2017, we introduced our minimal waste hamper with all the delicious bites packaged inside a re-usable wooden box. We ask for a $20 deposit upon hamper collection which is returned after you’ve enjoyed your delicious gourmet hamper and returned the box to the collection point!

All of our packaging is made out of 100% cornstarch based compostable material. We maintain a separate waste stream that allows all compostable packaging to actually be turned into compost, including our unique 100% compostable food packaging, straws, cutlery, coffee cups and lids sold in our food outlets and cafes.

NYE Resolutions For the Wild

2019 is just around the corner, and with it the promise of a fresh new year’s resolution to fulfil.

By making a few small lifestyle changes you can have a hugely positive impact on our planet and the wildlife that calls it home.

1. Drink your coffee from a reusable mug

  • Coffee tastes better in a reusable cup! Disposable coffee cups appear to be made of paper, but majority have a thin plastic lining making them unrecyclable. Aussies use 1 billion of these single-use cups every year.

Make a Resolution to commit to drinking your coffee out of a reusable cup next year - and you’ll be diverting around 500 cups from landfill.

2. Buy yourself a reusable water bottle

  • Plastic bottles can take 450 years to break up, and while most plastic bottles are recyclable, currently only 1 in every 5 plastic bottles actually makes it into the recycling stream.
  • If every Australian chose to use a reusable water bottle they could each save around 129 single-use bottles from landfill every year.

Make a Resolution to be the solution to plastic pollution in 2019 by using a reusable bottle.

3. Say ‘no’ to plastic straws

  • Australians use 2.7 billion straws a year! Saying no to straws when you’re out and about seems like such a simple action, but taking steps like this really do make an enormous difference to our environment.

Make a Resolution to say no to straws, or use a reusable straw, like stainless steel or bamboo. If every Australian said no to straws or used a stainless steel reusable straw, we would save an average of 2.7 billion single-use plastic straws from landfill every year.

4. Remember your reusable bags

  • Disposable bags can cause havoc to wildlife when they enter the environment. When they eventually starts to breaks down into smaller particles and pieces they can easily be swallowed by wildlife, work its way up to the food chain, and potentially even end up on your plate!

Make a Resolution to always remember to take your own reusable bags from home when you go shopping. Bags made from sustainable fibres such as canvas may be repaired or repurposed if they become torn or damaged.

Taronga Conservation Society Australia encourages individual Australians to avoid unnecessary disposable packaging in favour of reusable options, but we recognise that this is not always possible.

At our food outlets, Taronga’s zoos have significantly minimised the use of packaging by simply removing it where possible and introducing reusable food baskets for hot food, saving 350,000 plastic containers a year! Where possible, we are also provide dine-in cutlery, plates and ceramic coffee cups.

As a last option for takeaway, all of our packaging is made out of 100% cornstarch based compostable material. We maintain a separate waste stream that allows all compostable packaging to actually be turned into compost, including our unique 100% compostable food packaging, straws, cutlery, coffee cups and lids sold in our food outlets and cafes.
