Tony Britt Lewis: Senior Keeper, Australian Fauna

It has been eleven years since Tony, first started working at Taronga Zoo as a keeper. For him it was a lifelong dream fulfilled. As a young boy Tony says he was inspired by the books of Gerald Durrell and David Attenborough which lead him to complete a degree in Zoology and eventually pursue a career as a zookeeper.

Episode 7

Taronga is part of a breeding program to make sure endangered Tasmanian Devils remain on this planet. In this week’s episode of Wild Life at the Zoo, female Tasmanian Devil ‘Nina’ has mated with two feisty males, so who sired the precious Tasmanian Devil joeys?

Australian Breeding Programs

Working in partnerships with other zoos and organisations, Taronga is actively participating in breeding programs for Australian native animals, such as the Brush-Tailed Rock Wallaby of which there are only estimated to be 15-30,000 left in the wild.
