Taronga’s newly developed Main Entrance Plaza is a free access area where you can plan your Zoo adventure or get a taste of this famous Zoo even if you are only able to stay for a short visit.
There’s plenty to see and do at the plaza. You’ll first encounter beautiful artworks by Aboriginal artists as part of the “Sculpture Walk” which continues through to the inner plaza.
As part of the Main Entrance Plaza redevelopment you’ll notice that the heritage-listed main building has been restored to its former Edwardian glory.
In the inner plaza you can see some of the Zoo’s wildlife exhibits which are open to the public free of charge. You’ll see the wetland birds and soon be able to glimpse tree kangaroos and Pademelon wallabies.
Here you can also browse the Zoo Shop for a souvenir, enjoy a meal or coffee at Café Terrace or prepare for your day by purchasing tickets or booking an animal encounter or a tour before heading to the Zoo gateway where tickets are validated on entry.
Zoo Friends members also have a dedicated office in the historic Tram Shed, opposite the Main Entrance building, and this space has been transformed into a bright and welcoming area exclusively for them.
