Vivid Sydney’s wildest precinct is back as we once again light up Taronga Zoo for Australia’s most colourful festival!
Last year Vivid Sydney at Taronga Zoo amazed, delighted and wowed guests young and old with its incredible giant animal light sculptures. Now Lights for the Wild at Taronga Zoo Sydney is back—better, bolder and more beautiful than before.
WITH A LIMITED ALLOCATION OF TICKETS PER NIGHT, BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL!
A fully interactive and immersive event
For the first time, Lights for the Wild will be a fully interactive and immersive event. Become part of the experience and interact with the light sculptures like never before with a state-of-the-art wristband that lets you become a light for the wild.
Running from 26 May–17 June, your journey begins at Taronga’s heritage-listed main entrance—brought to life with dazzling projections. With your interactive wristband on, head through the gates and explore the illuminated trail that winds through the stunning grounds of Taronga Zoo.
Meet a cast of captivating creatures
Alongside the festival favourites from last year’s show, Lights for the Wild 2017 will introduce you to a whole new cast of characters and surprises.
Come and awe at the giant multimedia light sculptures: meet the magnificent Sumatran Tiger, the vividly coloured Marine Turtle, a swarm of tiny buzzing bees and a giant interactive Port Jackson Shark that will literally swallow you whole —plus a whole cast of other captivating creatures that will sparkle in the night.
Help Taronga save some very special animals
Each of these incredible installations and light sculptures tells a fascinating tale about conservation. Discover the stories about these beautiful animals and learn how Taronga is working to help save 10 species from extinction over the next 10 years.
Each night there will be a limited allocation of Blue Pass tickets that include a round trip on Taronga's Sky Safari cable car experience. See the zoo like never before and gain a truly unique perspective of Vivid Sydney at Taronga Zoo!
Taronga is committed to recycling
The interactive wristbands are fully recyclable however they need to be sent to a specific facility for this to happen. Show you are a Light For The Wild and recycle your interactive wristband on your way out! There is a dedicated bin in the top plaza and the location can be found on the Vivid map. Wristbands are free to all paid ticket holders however additional wristbands can be purchased on site for $5 each.
Taronga is for the wild. As a not-for-profit, Taronga has an absolute commitment to the conservation of wildlife and to securing a shared future for wildlife and people. All ticket proceeds go directly back to Taronga Zoo’s work in conservation and wildlife care.

This is amazing! ...We went into the city, saw the installations there, went back to the quay and got on the wrong ferry! We realised we were on our way to the zoo! We didn’t even know VIVID was on here and said to each other, let’s do it!.....and I have to tell you, it’s the best mistake we have made in years! VIVID at Taronga is head and shoulders above the rest!
