Come face to face with one of the Zoo's resident Hippos during the Hippo Encounter. A Zoo Keeper will take you behind the scenes to see and learn more about this iconic African animal.

The Hippo Encounter is an additional cost to Zoo tickets. Places are limited. We advise booking ahead to secure your place.

Need to know

  • Cost: $79 per person for Adults (16 years and up) and Children (10 to 15 years)
  • General Admission tickets to Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo must be purchased separately
  • When: 11.20am daily
  • Must be 10 years and older
  • Places are limited and bookings are essential, we recommend booking in advance to secure your place.
  • Same day bookings for a Hippo encounter close at 9.50am
  • Please note this encounter is available at Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo only.
