World Elephant Day

This elephant-astic competition has now ended.

To celebrate World Elephant Day coming up on 12 August 2020, students were invited to enter a sculpture competition to recreate this incredible species and submit a photo to enter to win.

For students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Entry details

Students are asked to create a sculpture of an elephant using recyclable materials only (e.g. cardboard, paper, newspaper, juice and milk cartons, steel/aluminium cans, etc.) and submit a photo.

You must also:

  • Make sure the photo is of a sculpture you have made (i.e. not a purchased sculpture)
  • Make sure your images are clear and of the sculpture only (cannot contain people)
  • NOT edit or manipulate your photos (e.g. via Photoshop)
  • Submit your entry only via the online form. No entries will be accepted via email or any other method
  • Provide a title of your photo(s) upon submission (a maximum of 5 photos per student can be submitted)
  • Name your photo(s) something that makes it clear it is yours, please ensure to include a full name and school - e.g. 'Jane Smith - School Name'

Competition opens: Wednesday 29 July 2020 at 9am

Competition closes: Monday 10 August 2020 at 9am

The prize

Winners will be judged in two categories:

  • Category 1: one student entry will be selected from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3 (Kindergarten to Year 6)
  • Category 2: one student entry will be selected from Stage 4 to Stage 6 (Years 7 to 12)

The two winners will each receive a personal 30-minute video conference with the Elephant Keepers at Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo. Winning photos will also be shared on the Taronga Education Facebook page.
