Work Experience Applications are now closed for 2017. If you are thinking of applying for 2018, the tips below might be helpful!

Taronga Western Plains Zoo's Work Experience program is for school students interested in pursuing a career in the zoo industry. The program is voluntary, unpaid and for school students in years 10, 11 and 12. The Work Experience student will spend time on various divisions within Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

One successful applicant per school will be assigned for one week's duration (Monday to Friday), excluding school and public holidays. Students and careers advisers are required to read the Work Experience Information document.

Application Process

Important tips for applying:

Please ensure that you read the Work Experience Information Package 2017 document before completing the Work Experience Application 2017 document - using the below links. (THESE HAVE BEEN REMOVED FOR THIS YEAR)

Once completed, please post your original application to Education Centre, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, PO Box 831, Dubbo, NSW 2830.  Electronic applications will not be accepted.

Please ensure you complete the Selection Criteria section located in the Work Experience Application 2017 document and return with your application.

Parents/Students

Your school will need to approve the work experience placement so please direct all of your communication to the school careers adviser. Please do not contact the zoo directly.

Students with Special Needs

Taronga Western Plains Zoo accepts students with special needs, as long as any necessary support is available and students are suitable for particular Zoo work areas.

Meet a Keeper

If Work Experience is fully booked, you may wish to attend Meet a Keeper. This is a one-day program for school students aged 14 years and over who have expressed a keen interest in pursuing a career at the Zoo. Meet Keepers, hear about their career pathways and learn about the variety of pathways to working in a zoo.
